What is Revision Joint Replacement?

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Joint replacements occasionally need to be exchanged. This is most frequently because of infection, progressive loosening over time and more common around the hip and shoulder area.

Revision surgery, as it is known, is also required for fractures around joint replacements but these are usually performed as an emergency operation.

Revision surgery frequently takes longer and requires more complex implants and equipment. Consequently, recovery in hospital and return to baseline function takes longer. The risks of the surgery are greater and the outcomes are less predictable than when compared to primary surgery. If you are considered for revision joint replacement, your surgeon will explain this in greater detail during your consultation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css=”.vc_custom_1643419383212{padding-bottom: 2.5% !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}” z_index=””][vc_column][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”grid” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

What is Revision Joint Replacement used for?

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Revision joint replacement can be required for a number of reasons such as a worn out joint replacement but its purpose is to relieve pain, restore function and improve the overall health of your joint, the same objective with the primary surgery. Revision joint surgery is a type of surgery to change or fix part of the original joint replacement.  Every case is different and your surgeon will provide in-depth consultation prior to surgery.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css=”.vc_custom_1643419392462{padding-bottom: 2.5% !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}” z_index=””][vc_column][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”grid” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Before the surgery

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]A number of different tests will take place prior to your revision joint replacement and at every phase your surgeon will be able to discuss with you the process and what is going on.  Exercise is normally recommended prior to any surgery but your surgeon will be able to advise depending on each personal case.  Whilst you may be experiencing some pain it is always recommended to do at least some daily exercise so your muscles around the joint areas don’t become too weak as these are your support structures.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css=”.vc_custom_1643419396816{padding-bottom: 5% !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}” z_index=””][vc_column][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”grid” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

After the surgery

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Recovery time varies from patient to patient.  Full recovery for knee replacement surgery for example can take up to 12 months but most people can return to work and some activities around the 3 – 6 month mark.  It’s important to listen to your post surgery care team such as your surgeon and physiotherapist who will consistently assess and review your own personal recovery.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1603956153664{background-color: #e6f2f1 !important;}”][qode_elements_holder number_of_columns=”one_column”][qode_elements_holder_item vertical_alignment=”middle” horizontal_alignment=”center” advanced_animations=”no” background_color=”#e6f2f1″][vc_column_text]
